Volunteering

Receptionists
Our sometimes very busy reception area is staffed by volunteers who answer the telephones, and welcome our Hospice visitors.

Fundraisers / Support Groups
Our dedicated team of fundraisers work within the community, volunteers help us by arranging and helping out at Hospice events putting the FUN into fundraising

Shops and Depot
Our depot in Saltney is where donated items are sorted by volunteers, prior to distribution to the Hospice shops. Our shops play a vital role in our fundraising, volunteers assist in our three shops in Chester City centre and at Ellesmere Port, selling donated items to the public.

Gardening
Volunteers tend and maintain the Hospice grounds and gardens, ensuring they always look their best

Hospice Lottery Collectors
Volunteers collect Hospice lottery subscriptions door to door in their local areas, they choose their round and the time they can spare each week, and also earn some commission.

Shoppers
Volunteers visit the hospice on weekdays and weekends to visit our in patients and ascertain their shopping needs this is usually newspapers, sweets etc from local shops.

Flower Arranging
Volunteers tend to the flowers within the Hospice from simple watering of the plants to building magnificent floral displays.

Drivers
If patients do not have relatives able to drive them in to attend Day Care, we have volunteer drivers who can transport them in and then back home later in the afternoon.

Day Hospice
Volunteers assist our medical staff caring for patients whilst they attend Day Hospice, they provide everything from cups of tea, to creative therapy such as painting and pottery decoration.

Wednesday Group
The Wednesday group volunteers organise social events and day trips for patients and their carers, these events and outings are very popular and somehow they usually manage to find the good weather.

Befrienders
Trained befriender volunteers hold regular drop in coffee mornings at Backford Lea and Mollington Village Hall for people to meet up, chat and share friendship.

Special Volunteer Roles
We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers to enable us to offer all these services to our patients, we also have volunteers with very special talents that help us with our accounting, our medical library, creative therapy, complementary therapy and calligraphy.

This is just a taste of what opportunities are available, but if your particular skill is not listed, it does not mean that we are not interested in hearing from you, if you feel able to help by volunteering your services please do not hesitate to contact Amy Lewis our Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Hospice.
